The State Council on Aging, a governor appointed council, made the Excellence in Action Award to SLAC and the Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) at the Washington State Senior Citizens’ Foundation 2017 Fall Conference. Over 380 people attended the conference and heard from key statewide policy makers about issues impacting older Americans. The materials from the conference are available online at: http://www.waseniorlobby.org/2017-fall-conference-recap/.

The Senior Legal Advice Clinic is the only one of its kind in Washington State. Mark Harvey, O3A Regional Director (and PDN Columnist) has led the efforts of the O3A Information and Assistance staff and local attorneys who make it work. The local attorneys provide 30 minute consultations and low income estate planning to clients that have been scheduled by O3A Information & Assistance Office.  Chuck Henry, Henry & Allen, has been working with the program for over 16 years.  Other contributors have included: David Faber, Doris Hardyman, and Amanda Wilson.

We have many SLAC clients who have never had the money to prepare estate planning.  They may have little or nothing to leave to their heirs, but are left proud when we give them free simple Wills and Powers of Attorneys and the feeling they have done the right thing by their survivors.  That alone makes the program satisfying to me.” ...
